chaat masala

This masala is used to sprinkle over snacks, vegetables, fruit and into drinks. It has a very distinct sour and salty taste.

Every region of India has a different preparation for this and every family has their own recipe.

The asafoetidaamchur and black salt distinguish chaat masala from other masalas, giving the blend a sourness that makes it a welcome accompaniment to fresh fruit and other snacks.

This is readily available from Indian grocers or can be easily made at home. Making it yourself will give a much fresher and pungent masala.
